Electrolux Professional on World Food Day

On the World Food Day on October 16, Electrolux Professional is bringing the importance of reducing food waste to the fore both supporting the Electrolux Food Foundation new “replate.com” initiative as well as push forward the Electrolux Professional food solution “Zero Waste All Taste”.

The food we choose and the way we produce, prepare, cook and store it makes us all an integral and active part of the way in which the global agri-food systems works. The International World Food Day 2021 promotes a sustainable agri-food system, in which a variety of sufficient, nutritious and safe foods is available at an affordable price to everyone, and nobody is hungry or suffers from any form of malnutrition.

Zero waste. All taste.

In 2016 Electrolux Professional launched the food concept Zero waste, all taste, to show how even the most basic, inexpensive ingredients that so frequently go to waste can be used to create a fine menu.

Supermarkets carry large quantities of fresh ingredients that are often thrown out as soon as they pass their expiration date. The Electrolux Professional team of Chefs together turned this into an opportunity, searching for innovative ways to combine these ingredients into gourmet meals. The initiative has now been rejuvenated, specifically with the catering sector in mind.

“Our Chef Academy jumped in with our knowledge, creating dedicated recipes for ‘old’ bananas, carrots and eggplants – three ingredients that were particularly going to waste,” explains Maximilian Zedelmeier, Corporate Chef Teamleader

“There’s far more interest in sustainability now, compared to just five years ago – it’s a common expectation for consumers and we can clearly show how reducing food waste impacts profitability,” Zedelmeier adds.

“We hope that the Waste Less Food initiative will inspire people to make the most of the ingredients – from the humble carrot and the brilliant banana, to reimagining any leftovers. By wasting less food, everyone can make a real difference to the food system”, says Ingrid Mellstig Electrolux Food Foundation.
