The Professionals: Mattia Passanisi

Our Junior Accountant in Italy, Mattia Passanisi, is a passionate advocate for workplaces where diversity and inclusion can thrive, after having been born profoundly deaf and overcoming personal obstacles to believe there are no limits to what is achievable professionally.

Tell us more about your role as Junior Accountant and what it entails?

My primary responsibility is assisting in managing the financial records, ensuring accuracy and supporting the financial processes of the organization. It requires strong attention to detail and proficiency in financial software, as well as working with other departments to provide accurate data and support their financial needs. It’s been an incredible journey so far, filled with opportunities to grow and contribute to meaningful projects.

“I currently have two cochlear implants in both my ears and, although I’ve never considered it a limitation, I’ve had to overcome fears and challenges,” Mattia says. “This has highlighted my understanding of the need to create a more inclusive and open society and workplaces where everyone feels welcomed, respected and valued, regardless of their background, gender, age, skin color, disability, sexual orientation, religion, and more.”

You recently took up an additional temporary assignment as AI Product Owner – Finance. What does that involve?

The goal is to leverage my expertise in the business streams and use AI to automate business activities, making them easily accessible without time-consuming and cumbersome steps. This additional assignment, which we call a Gig within the company, aligns perfectly with my passion for harnessing technology and solving real-world problems, particularly in the financial sector.

What route did you take in terms of studies and jobs to where you are today?

I completed a degree in Business Administration and Control at the University of Udine, which provided me with a solid foundation in financial principles, management and analytical techniques. After graduating, I started my career as a tax assistance specialist before joining Electrolux Professional Group.

What do you love about your role?

There’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing that my work contributes to maintaining the financial health of an organization. I thrive on solving challenges that require precision and analytical thinking so the attention to detail required is something I truly value. It’s an excellent platform to expand my knowledge of financial systems and gain hands-on experience with diverse accounting tasks – it’s exciting to see how these skills will shape my future career.

What advice would you give to people wanting to work in a position like yours?

Always be eager to learn and grow, as accounting is a field that evolves with new regulations and technologies and seek mentorship from experienced colleagues to navigate challenges and refine your skills.
